Description: The Writers Project at SUNY Adirondack was founded in 2001 with the help of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and is currently funded by grants from the ACC Foundation and Poets and Writers, Inc. It's three-part mission consists of the following: 1) to provide residents of Warren, Washington, and Saratoga Counties with exposure to nationally renowned writers in the form of free readings followed by Q and A sessions and book signings; 2) to provide a reading venue and support for local and up-and-coming writers; 3) to support fledging writers with workshops and conferences. Readings are free and open to the public and workshops are available for a nominal fee. Visiting authors represent a variety of genres (poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, young adult literature and graphic novels), as well as diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds (White American, African American, Latin American, Arab-American, Scottish, Yugoslavian, Iraqi, Korean American). Programming has diversified in recent years to include more interactive formats such as a day long writing conference featuring four well-published authors of young adult literature, as well as themed mini-series, such as the recent "Voices From the Middle East Series."
