Organization Profile: The Downtown Writers Center is Central New York's only community center for the literary arts, and is a member of the YMCA National Writer's Voice. The DWC is a program of the Arts Branch of the YMCA of Greater Syracuse, one of the country's leading YMCA-based arts programs. Literary Series Profile: The reading series at the Downtown Writer's Center features 15-20 visiting authors each year. Recent or forthcoming visitors include Ted Kooser, Claudia Emerson, Sapphire, Sam Hamill, Minnie Bruce Pratt and W. D. Snodgrass. Nearly all readings are free and open to the public. The DWC also offers 30-40 creative writing workshops each year, with classes available for all experience levels.
