| Biography: (1924-1987) Author, writer. James Baldwin was born in Harlem, Manhattan, New York, and spent an impoverished boyhood there. At 14 he became a preacher in the Fireside Pentecostal Church. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, New York. In 2004 the United States Postal Service issued its twentieth stamp in the Literary Arts series in honor of James Baldwin. |
