Full Name: Howard Nemerov | ||
Biography: (1920-1991) Poet, novelist, critic. Howard Nemerov was born in New York City and graduated Harvard in 1941. During World War II he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and then the United States Army Air Force. He began teaching in 1946. He was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1977, and in 1978, his "Collected Poems" was awarded both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. In 1981, he received the Bollingen Prize. He was Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1963 to 1964, and he was named the nation's third Poet Laureate Consultant to the Library of Congress from 1988 to 1990. |
