| Biography: A SUNY Buffalo Ph.D. and Manhattan resident, Marlene Barr is the scholar who pioneered the study of feminist science fiction as an academic discipline. The author of four scholarly books who has lectured and taught throughout the world, Barr has won the Science Fiction Research Association Pilgrim Award for lifetime achievement in science fiction criticism. In addition to all of her writing, lecturing, and feminist pioneering, Barr was undertaking a worldwide husband search. Her concurrent experience as an expert on the literary depiction of the separatist utopian planet and husband hunter par excellence is chronicled in her University of Wisconin Press novel OY PIONEER! OY PIONEER!, the first humorous, Jewish, feminist academic novel, reads as if Mel Brooks, Erica Jong, and David Lodge morphed to re-create Sex and the City for intellectuals. The book is sexy, hilarious--and VERY different. Barr teaches at Montclair State University and is a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University. Last--but not least--she very recently got married. TITLE OF BOOK: OY PIONEER! (Spring 2003). Publisher: University of Wisconsin Press (1930 Monroe St. Madison WI 53711). Contact Sales Manager Eric Goldman: ericgoldman@wisc.edu |
