Full Name: Daniela Gioseffi
Biography:
Daniela Gioseffi is an American Book Award winning author who has published ten books of poetry and prose. She rose from a Newark ghetto to be published and present her work all over the world from Coast to Coast in the United States to London, Madrid, Tokyo, Barcelona, Venice, Zagreb, and to teach on many campuses around the country. Her poetry will be engraved in marble on a newly renovated PENN Station wall, 2002. Her books of poetry are Eggs in the Lake (Boa Editions, Ltd.)Word Wounds and Water Flowers, and Going On Poems 2000 (Via Folios @ Purdue University.) She has won two New York State Council for the Arts grant awards in poetry and published numerous poems in anthologies and literary magazines such as The Paris Review, The Nation, Chelsea, Choice, Ms., Poetry East, Prairie Schooner, Antaeus or Kaleidescope: Stories of the American Experience (Oxford U. Daniela is a freelance reviewer for several journals and a member of The National Book Critics Circle, PEN American Center and The Academy of American Poets, and gives talks, readings and workshops around the country at many campuses, libraries and book fairs--specializing in poetry with a social conscience. She has lived in Brooklyn Heights for over thirty years. She's read for NPR and the BBC and published two award winning multicultural compendiums: WOMEN ON WAR: International Voices for the Nuclear Age (Touchstone/Simon & Schuster: NY 1990, soon to be reissued by The Feminist Press, 2002, and ON PREJUDICE: A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE (Anchor/Doubleday, 1993.) She has taught Creative Writing at colleges and universities, as well as in prisons and, senior centers, hospitals, and to public school children all over New York and New Jersey. Daniela was a charter poet of The-Poets-in-the-Schools programs funded by the New York State Council for the Arts. She has won two grants in poetry and prose, as well as performance poetry from The New York State Council on the Arts and staged the first Brooklyn Bridge Poetry Walk in 1972. Her first publication was a comic feminist novel from Doubleday and Dell: The Great American Belly...1979, and she brought out a collection of stories and novella in 1997, titled In Bed with the Exotic Enemy.
