Event Description: The Pleasures of Writing Begin the new year in a community of writers. Nestle in at the Center at Mariandale for a January retreat and ignite your senses. Part of the pleasure of writing is the creation of one's own work. Doing the work is in itself a reward. This writing retreat will meet mornings and evenings, and include brief afternoon writing assignments. There will be morning writing prompts to strengthen focus. Evening discussions will include optional sharing of work. We will discuss the business of writing and the role of agents, publishers, booksellers, reviewers, and their separate functions. We will have the opportunity to submit work to a publication and study the process. Attention will be given to organizational skills - bringing all the pieces together. Guidance will be given on the development of a chapbook of one's individual work. We will learn the three basic and simple components necessary for the development of a chapbook, from its conception to publication. Chapbooks are an inexpensive and excellent way to consolidate a specific collection of completed work. Take advantage of the natural environment, explore the tranquil surroundings, walk in the snow, enjoy hot chocolate, and spend time with a community of fellow writers.
