Event Description: Celebrate IAWA's 31st year of spectacular programming and nonstop monthly literary readings. Due to COVID-19, the Boston and NY Chapters have been presenting readings remotely via Zoom; doors close 6:15 pm. The event is Free but you must register to attend. All are welcomed to read for 5 minutes at the Open Mic. We start with an Open Mic, followed by two features, and a Q&A with the authors. This month's features are Matt Cariello and Gail DiMaggio. Matt Cariello’s latest poetry collection, Talk, won the Lauria/Frasca Prize, and was published in the spring of 2019 by Bordighera Press; while his first collection, A Boat That Can Carry Two/Una barca per due, won the 2010 Bordighera Poetry Prize and was published in a bilingual edition in 2011. His short stories, poems and reviews have appeared in the following journals, among others: Voices in Italian Americana (VIA), Ovunque Siamo, Poet Lore, Artful Dodge, The Evening Street Review, Frogpond, Modern Haiku, The Long Story, The Indiana Review, Iron Horse Literary Review, and The Journal. Gail DiMaggio’s first book, Woman Prime, was selected by Jericho Brown for the 2018 Permafrost Poetry Prize and published by Alaska University Press. Her work has appeared recently in Valparaiso Poetry Journal, Whiskey Island, and Raw Arts Review where her poem “We Look into Fire” was a runner up for the Mirabai Prize. Her cycle of five “metta” poems won the Passager Poetry Competition for 2021. Her second book, Ironworks, will be published by Variant Literature in 2022.
