| Event Description: | A theatrical event of significance for our time will take place on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2:30 pm. It is “Ethics Is a Living Thing!” – an Aesthetic Realism Theatre Company production of Eli Siegel’s landmark lecture on Robert Southey’s play Wat Tyler. Southey wrote this passionate short play in 1794, about the Peasants’ Rebellion of 1381. And Eli Siegel, founder of Aesthetic Realism, is the critic to show the importance of the play. He said: "The ethics of Wat Tyler is a living thing. The neatest presentation of the rights of people is in this play. In its way, Wat Tyler is a miniature masterpiece." The play—which will be performed in its entirety—is about ethical matters affecting people tremendously now: the relation of wealth and poverty; labor and profit. Wat Tyler—the Theatre Company shows—is about the urgent question first asked by Eli Siegel: “What does a person deserve by being a person?” The event takes place at the Aesthetic Realism Foundation, located at 141 Greene Street, in SoHo. There is a suggested contribution of $15. Seat¬ing is on a first-arrival basis, or call 212.777.4490 for reservations; and visit www.AestheticRealism.org . |
