| Event Description: | On June 24, 2012, in Brooklyn, writers from all boroughs will converge in Ft. Greene, one of the world’s literary capitals, to participate in the NY Writers Coalition (NYWC) 7th Annual Write-A-Thon. The Write-A-Thon will benefit the NYWC’s free, unique and powerful creative writing programs across New York City. The 7th Annual NYWC’s Write-A-Thon will feature guest speaker Ira Glass, Storyteller and Host of NPR’sThis American Life. Writers of all genres and levels of experience are invited; we believe that everyone has a voice and a story, and NYWC’s Write-A-Thon activities are geared for everyone. Participants will devote a full day to their writing, find community, attend free inspiring workshops, and compete for prizes. Gift-bag freebies and lunch and light breakfast are included. Like a walk-a-thon, our attendees will ask friends and family to donate in support of their day of writing. Visit www.nywriterscoalition.org for more details. Funds raised from the Write-A-Thon will benefit NYWC's creative writing program for at-risk and disconnected youth, the homeless and formerly homeless, the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated, war veterans, people with disabilities, cancer and major illness, immigrants, seniors and countless others who aren't heard from often enough in society. |
