Description: | The Hudson Valley Writers' Center (HVWC) began in the late 1980s as a poetry series at the local library and is now a multi-faceted writers' center offering not only readings by established and emerging writers in all genres but classes, outreach activities, and a press (named Slapering Hol after the Old Dutch for Sleepy Hollow) which publishes at least one book of poetry a year. Since 1996 it has occupied the historic Philipse Manor Railroad Station on the Hudson River just north of the Tappan Zee Bridge. It acquired the long-abandoned station from Metro-North and undertook a massive restoration effort that is now complete. Hudson Valley Writers Center, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1988 with a mission to promote the appreciation of literary excellence and to stimulate and nurture the creation of literary works in all sectors of the population. |
